SweetyPie

On this dreariest sunday since ages, I originally had plans to see a girlfriend and go to the museum. But she called me to say she was ill, so I had to think of something else. And what better way to spend you sunday afternoon than... baking an applepie! (I followed the recipes from one of my mother's old cookbooks) It's sitting in the oven as we speak and I can smell it up here in my little atticroom. It sure smells good!

More sweetness you'll find over here: Rock Rebel Sweety Pie . Two girls I have yet to meet, decided to start a monthly party in Amsterdam. From friday December 14th onward you can dance, decorate cupcakes and more. I'm thrilled!

Since it is pie-time at Miss Lucy's, I decided to tell you a little secret. Next spring me and my friend Eva are organising a Bake-Off in Rotterdam. We have a wonderfull place in mind, but it isn't sure yet. So if you have some spare time, start working on your baking skills. It'll be a wonderfull day with amazing prizes on top for the winner.

And then, as a cherry on top of the pie, *drumroll* I'd like to announce my very own column (in Dutch) for Rock 'n' Roll magazine Boppin' Around! It'll have its' premiere in the christmass issue. Every few months I'll be writing about one of my favourite songs and some nice venues I've visited or bands I've seen. Keep an eye out fot that!

And now for a big chunk 'o pie. Yes sirree!

Sweet frosted kisses from your Miss Lucy

On Daily life

There's not much to tell today. The cold keeps me in when I'm not working. Im doing my chores and I'm browsing the net. After a few trial-and-errors I finally finished my first scarf for baby Juliette. I hope she likes it! It'll be warm anyway ;)

But here are a few tips for those dark 'n' windy evenings: www.meisjeloos.tk - a blog about a girl gone sailing. 'Vrouwen Van Parijs' - a book by André Maurois and beautiful photo's by Nico Jesse. www.suzet.nl - new hosiery after real vintage designs. (And nylonkousen.net has even more stockings!)

Gotta dash off now. My dancing class is tonite and a girl's gotta look good! ;) (And eat something too, before she faints on the dancefloor.)

Love, Miss Lucy -XX-

PS I completely fotgot to tell you about the Festival a few weeks ago! It was very nice. Good atmosphere, lot's of pretty dressed people, the Ragtime Wranglers were great, too and I could have driven off into the sunset on one of those Vintage Beach Cruisers. Look here to find out who won the fashionshow and photo shoot.

Hot! Hot! Hot!

I don't need to tell those of you who were at Teuven yesterday what a crazy night it was. That Ray Collins and his Hot Club sure know how to get you going. I have rarely seen the crazyness I've seen yesterday. Their music is adrenaline, it's drugs! It is addictive! I'm still going out of my mind by just thinking about it! If you don't know what who I'm talking about, please go and check out their website www.the-hot-club.com immediately! (But not before you finished reading this blog, ofcourse... *winks*) And be sure to go and see their show, it's even better then their albums. OH MY GOD!

I had the best evening out in a long time. AND I felt like a princess because of my friend Laura, who made the dress I was wearing and that she named after me: The Luscious Lucy. So if you want to look and feel like a goddess as well, be sure to give her a call!

I had better get goin'/ Move on down the line / 'Cause that mean way of yours, drives me outta my mind! **MMM** Still humming that tune. It sure was nice to be up on the stage again.

I wish you all a very pleasant week. See you real soon! (Don't forget there's fun stuff to do in Rotterdam next Sunday!)

Love,

miss Lucy

Etiquette

To my male readers.

Yesterday evening, October 6th, I went to a Lindy Hop dance party in Utrecht. The atmosphere was nice, some of the girls made an effort to be their most enchanting selves. There was a lot of dancing going on, too. But, I was horror struck when I saw the girls asking a fellow to dance with them and, even worse, leading another female follower onto the dance floor! I know modern women, and escpecially Dutch women, have tought their men to not open doors and not to climb stairs first. But when it comes to dancing, even a modern girl likes to be asked politely and be thanked for her time. Even if her dancing wasn't that good... (For wich there may be a million different reasons!) I think you should take an example by your neighnours south of the border. Dress up! Brush your teeth! Say "Would you would do me the honour to join me in this dance". All those big girls will loosen up for sure. You know, it isn't just about the dancing, it is also about courtship. And one friendly word a day can do so much good!

I'm sure my friend Reinildis van Ditzhuyzen has something usefull to say about the subject, too!

To my female followers ;).

I started knitting again! What a delight! I hadn't picked up those needles since childhood when I made my barbiedolls little outfits in jellow-and-pink. Check out this group of girls: Stitch 'n' Bitch. They're everywhere in The Netherlands! You can find initiatives like this in Gent as well and I'm sure you're all going to love mrs. Caroline Vogels' 'Naaicafé' in Rotterdam.

Enjoy!

Love,

miss Lucy

New! Try Now!

Hello my dear friends,

I heard through the grapevine that some of you were desperately waiting for a new post. I'm terribly sorry that I made you wait this long. Some serious changes took place and it took me a while to get ajusted.

First I would like to share with you the existence of a fifties inspired fashion / music / art festival in Rotterdam: the Going To A Go-Go Festival. It'll take place on November the 4th. They also host a market, and ... It isn't full yet! So if you have something to sell, *click* on the logo for the 'How To' information.

Another news item: I'm on My-Space too! Take a peek at Miss Lucy's Corner for more on me and my goings-on.

Also, I will be going back to Italy for a few days next week to vist the Biennale in Venice. Lot's of nice picture moments I suspect.

This weekend I undertook the journey back to Belgium, to visit the last Antwerp-edition of Radio Modern. And what a fine one it was! I never heard the ladies fuss over the singer that much before! Go to the Rusty Roots website to see what I mean. It makes being single again a whole deal more beareble! ;) I'm curious to see what the new photographer made of it, too.

One final tip for my fans in the Netherlands: the Amsterdam BeatClub. A very fine selection of artists on different locations around Amsterdam. They'l be seeing a lot more of me I can tell you that!

Bye for now. New updates when I get back from Venice!

Love always,

Miss Lucy

Sentimental Journey

Dear readers,

Just a short message to share something nice with you.

In the first week of June we made a trip to Italy. On our quest to find the Carabinieri I found this cute leaflet.

We looked up the store, and what a good thing we did! Spicy prices but very realistic considering the offer. So, if you do not just want to visit Ponte Vecchio on your stay in Firenze, be sure to pay a visit to Pitti Vintage. Luigi and companions will be able to tell you where you can find more of the good stuff. If Firenze is to far: you can also shop online at www.pittivintage.com. Enjoy!

This is all for now. Im not feeling well, for reasons I can not reveal yet. (It has nothing to do with the pitter patter of little feet, though.)

Love,

Your sad Miss Lucy

Domestic Goddess

Hey you hepcats!

It's been a while. I know and I'm deeply sorry. But when you're such a busy bee like myself, you'll know the problem!

The reason is that we moved. I'm glad it's over and that I can put my belongings behind cupboard doors. What piles of stuff we have! (B is almost worse than me. All the souvenirs he brought from his air travels...) And I'm simply unable to throw anything away. (But I will be selling some of it on a flea market in the near future, just to make room for some new things... ;-) ) The nice thing about moving is that you get to see everything you have. The thing I found, and would like to share with you, is a Dutch booklet called 'PRISMA Huishoud Encyclopedie' (Encyclopedia for Good Housekeeping). It has tips on everything, from how to boil potatoes to the best way to wash baby clothes. Here is a paragraph on which clothing is best for your figure. (Sorry to the not-Dutch reading fans, but it's a lot to translate!) If there's anything you'd like to know, just write me and I'll see if there's a chapter on it.

I'm going to leave you with a recipe for for muffins. A true delight on a sunday morning (or afternoon) after a long, late, cocktail filled saturday night. (I know, I tried!)

For 12 muffins:
1*Preheat your oven on 220 degrees cellcius. Get a muffin tin or silicone cups and put paper muffin cups in the holes;
2*Mix 200 Grams of flower with a little less than half a packet of backing powder (+/- 6 grams) an a teaspoon of salt;
3*Melt 200 grams of butter and stir 150 grams of sugar into it;
4*Peel two apples and slice them into small peaces. Cut up and add sliced pieces of candied stemginger according to taste (Not everyone likes ginger, but boy does it gives your muffins the kick you need on that hungover sunday morning!). Also add a little ginger syrup and some cinnamon powder;
5*Add the flower mixture to the butter while stirring. Then add two whisked eggs. Keep stirring to make the batter fluffy. If it is mixed nicely into a smooth batter add the apple and ginger and stir quickly but smoothly;
6*Spoon the the batter into your 12 cups (leave a rim of paper visible) and put in the oven;
7* Bake for 40 minutes or until brown and drie. You can check this with a knitting needle or a fonduefork or a long wooden cocktail pin. Take out of the oven and let cool for a little while. Serve with ginger jam or un sweetened whipped cream. YUMMIE!

Now, I'm off into the sun!

Love and Bon Apétite!

Your Miss Lucy

PS The trip to Valencia was wonderful but for one thing, I had to stay in bed with a fever! Also, I don't have any pictures yet but I'll post a few when I do! The hotel was absolutely worth photographing!

Bits 'n' Pieces

It is finally time to kick off my shoes and sit back to enjoy a little bit of sun this weekend. I'm going to Valencia with my girlfriends! Two days of us, sun, a little bit of sea, a little bit of culture and big heaps of tasty juicy talk 'n' drinks... I'm sooo ready for that! (The picture is a room in the hostel we're staying. I'll you all about that when we get back.) And it's a necessary little trip, because afterwards it's moving time. Packing, stashing, throwing away, calling this and that company to change my address. Moving is not my favorite spare-time, BUT it is THE opportunity to change my interior, which is not at all a bad thing.

We had a wonderful time in Humbeek last Saturday by the way. Pictures will be on line soon. We were hoping for some more pairs of feet on the dance floor, but I guess we had serious competition of the wonderful spring weather. No blame comes to the DeeJays, though. Check out his and her myspace and be sure to visit her blog through my links section.

Bye for now! Early day tomorrow...

Love,

Miss Lucy

PS Try to make it on the 5th of May, because then it's up to King B en myself to jump the stage.
PPS I found me a girdle for the mere price of 10 euro's! Jeehahw!

Little Spring

A sunny hello again!

March has been a strange month in many ways. We had the first day of spring, which is always a bit of a surprise after all the rain and gray skies. Also, something less fortunate happened. My sister passed away. I haven't seen much of her in the last few years (she was 18 years older), but we were very similar, what makes it very strange. It's kind of a cliché, but it really makes you wonder. This is not really the place to write about such things, but I thought I'd let you know since I didn't leave any new posts. It also made me decide a few things like quitting my job as flight attendant. I want to spend more time with my loved ones and more time on Radio Modern and keeping you up to date! Besides that I couldn't find the time to do things like going to the theatre, something that I truly, deeply love. (I acted in a lot different youth theatre companies when I was, well, a youth. ;-) )

Another thing that happened in March is that I got to sing with The Domino's, a Rock-A-Billy band from the Eighties. It was the most wonderful thing because I got to sing a few songs that I usually only sing to myself. Who knows what may come of it. I'm hoping for something good... Check my links section for their my-space page and other links that are worth your while.

Love and Sunshine,

Your miss Lucy

PS. King B and me, we're going to move! We found a cute little appartment with three little attic rooms, which means I get my own private working space! So more girly time with my computer and, YOU!

Confessions from the Powder Room

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Hello there, dolls!

We had a truly wonderful evening last saturday. Lady Linn herself let us know that she was exited about the location and the audiance, so we'll defenitely be seeing, and hearing, more of her. (Did I allready tell you that my first kiss from King B was on a concert of them about two years ago? Well, now you know...)

Besides wonderful, it was also a bit awkward. You see, it was the first time I wore garters... After I bought a beautiful pair of seamed stockings I just couldn't any longer ignore the fact that a real vintage lady HAS to wear garters. Anyway, it turnes out to be quite an art to position the hooks right. When I finally got it about right, one strap broke, after just one hour of wearing them! So much for new stuff... If been tracing down garter belts and girdles on E-Bay for a while, but I just can't seem to get hold of one. So if someone can give me a tip on where I can find one somewhere in Belgium, please do! (I'll buy you a drink ;-) )

An other fashion novelty were the rolls I wore in my hair. Another true art in the history of hairstyles. Boy, what [atience must you have, what quantities of laquer and pins must you use! Luckily I had Miss Maya form Swing-O-Logy to assist me. Now it's up to me to practise. Maybe it's an idea to organise a real vintage-beauty workshop sometime in the near future? What they can do overseas, we can do here! No?

Oh, and be sure to visit the VW Spring Sessions website! This blog and more things delicious are featured there!

Bye!

Hugs and Kisses,

Your Miss Lucy

Glorious news!

I just recieved an email with the question if I'm interested in writing a blog for the Alert part on the VolksWagen SpringSessions festival website. Of course I am! I do hope you're all as delighted as I am. More from Lucy can't be bad, right? ;) No but seriously, let's spread some good stuff around.

Some more good news. Louvains local television network ROB is going to do a report on our band The Mighty Quiffs. So if you live in the area, be sure to watch! I don't' know when it'll be broadcasted yet, but I'll let you know as soon as I do. The report will feature a few songs and an interview (in Dutch).

And now I need my beauty sleep. A long day of paperwork coming up tomorrow. We're getting into some wonderful stuff, though. More about that real soon. (It has something to do with starting up my own business...)

In the mean time, take a look at this Grrrll. She proves that you don't always have to go on a plane to find something new and refreshing. Exotic even? Enjoy!

Love and Kisses,

Your miss Lucy

Get out your dancing shoes!

Before I dash off for drinks with a girlfriend, I just wanted to share with you how excited I am that there's a new edition of Radio Modern coming up this saturday! The reason is that we have a new feature: dance lessons! I started following LindyHop lessons a few years ago, but my job and a sprained ankle that still bothers me, stopped me from continuing. I'm hoping that these lessons will make up for lost time. 'Cause boy, how fast one forgets her steps... If you wanna do an allround dance course the old style, go and see Apollo Swing. Genevieve and Didier, a wonderful couple from Brussels, give lessons in Brussels, Antwerp and Gent.

Well, gotta go now! But before I forget, my dress is finished! It had its maiden voyage at the Villa Ernesto in Louvain last saturday. Check our myspace for some dates and places where you can see it if you can't wait untill May 5th, when we perform at Radio Modern. (If you didn't know, King B. and myself are in a band called The Mighty Quiffs.)

Love and Kisses,

miss Lucy

PS Winter, finally!

A Fresh Start

There's nothing more wonderful to begin the new year with, than cleaning out your desk. It not only gives you satisfaction, it also makes the dark and dreary January hours pass. On top of that, there is possibillity you'll find memos, photos or letters you thought lost. Now I wouldn't be writing this if I didn't have a good reason, so here it is. During my cleaning session I found a little note I wrote on the back of a travel schedule someone forgot. It was my first "billet-doux" to King B, whose name then was Brent. I'll spare you the details, but the fact is that I still feel the same about us. I thought that is something good to start the new year with. So, my wish for you is to find such a wonderful love of your own in 2007! About the picture, -which I copied from the wonderful book '40's; All American Ads' form Taschen- King B got me something wonderful by lingerie designer La Fille d'O for Christmas. I won't tell you what it was, but feel free to check out her webpage. Psst! Check out the links section! It's ... delicious!

Bye for now!
